Agentic Coding

ACI-057: The Price of a Fleet

Thesis

A fleet commits its own coordination, so commits per month stops measuring output the moment you add agents: in every measured window, most commits touched no code. Mark the fleet era as a separate regime in any velocity table, and budget the coordination traffic and the machine the fleet runs on as line items.

Story

I bootstrapped Lamplight's whiteboard for concurrent sessions on 18 May 2026 (Lamplight@fce7c0b7d, 2026-05-18), and the commit rate changed with it. By commit date the months ran 375 in February, 198 in March, 562 in April and 763 in May, then 2,518 in June, 3,431 in July, 2,493 in August and 816 in September to the 26th, over every commit reachable from Lamplight@27914e546 (2026-09-26). What a commit was changed too. By July I was closing three threads in one ruling on the validation node's verdicts, with two other nodes notified (Lamplight@f40f24405, 2026-07-13).
