Between the artefact you verified and the one a user receives there is a hop that can transform it or never run, so verify the delivered thing: read it back off disk, or ask the running release. Rehearse the release pipeline end to end on a clean clone, knowing the clone holds only what git holds and a build context ships the working tree. A test that builds its own inputs cannot see a missing composition step, so keep an end-to-end bar above the suite that is allowed to fail, and never close on a failed bar.
